I’m taking the effin’ bull by the horns in 2012. This is MY year. I will leave a mark so big on this mofo, archaeologists in 3087 will be digging it up and puzzling over it for decades. “Who was this Kendall Grey?” they’ll say. “How did one indie underdog chick’s book rock the world so hard that it left a mile-wide hole in the middle of downtown New York?” Well, a fine-ass book cover is a good place to start.
As soon as I secured rights to the photo I wanted for my EXHALE cover, I turned things over to Claudia at Phat Puppy Art. I had a finished product by the end of the day. Have I told you how amazing Claudia is? Seriously awesome to work with. She’s made the publishing process so much easier and less stressful for me, especially after a seemingly endless series of setbacks.
Thank you again, Claudia. I love your work. I love working with you. Can’t wait to get started on the JUST BREATHE cover. :-)
I don’t want to get into the details of why this image is so perfect for EXHALE because it would give too much away, and you have no idea what the story’s about anyway. BUT…the water, fire, tattoos, colors — even the pose – speak volumes about where Gavin ends up when the final page is turned.
So, here it is. EXHALE. Photograph of Kern Johnston by Jemma Milanovic. Cover design by Claudia McKinney at Phat Puppy Art. I hope you love it as much as I do.
